T of C Dinner, Red Rock LAs Vegas
My buddies and my family are in here! Here's a photo of me with my friends Bobby and Steve.
My good friends Brad, Eric and Troy L (http://www.troylavallee.com) on stage with me at the best comedy club on the planet, CAROLINES ON BROADWAY.
A lot of you wandered into my site because you bowl or are a fan of professional bowling. So you may be wondering, why am I pictured with a lot of stand-up comedians here? Well, while I was in college, I was really into going to stand-up comedy clubs ( Like Rascals in West Orange NJ and Dangerfields in Manhattan and even Carolines once when it was at the Seaport .)It was a nice change to drinking with all of my TKE fraternity Brothers and wasting my weekend nights in the dorms of William Paterson College. Fast forward to the year I was home rehabbing from my career-threatening wrist injury ( 2005) I rediscovered comedy clubs and that it is really hard to have a bad night out at a comedy club. I used these nights out as a distraction since I couldnt bowl for the first time in my life and that I may never be able to do it again period .( much less do it for a living).
What made comedy come back to me was me activating the subscription to XM satellite radio in my car.AS I would drive to rehab or anywhere I would have it on and I quicky discovered a lot of the comics that I have seen on Comedy Central and a lot of new ones I have never heard of. . Now the XM radio in my car has a small technical glitch. After a bit starts the comic's name comes up on the display - well most of it, I get half of the bits title as well as a partial name of the comic. Now, I found myself listening for this one comic in particular to come on while I was driving around. When he would come on I would say to myself, "Wow, Mitch Hedb. What a weird name for a comic, but hes a joke telling genius." Now I find myself driving around waiting for this hip kind of jazzy black guy to come on because in my mind's eye this is what this dude looked like according to his distinct speech pattern and voice. One day one of the hosts announced, "Coming up George Carlin, Steven Wright and Mitch HedbERG!" I got it! The full name! I googled Mitch Hedberg and found out my mind's eye sure did play a trick on me, because Mitch was a white guy who looked like he was stuck in the 1970's --looking kind of like a stoner dude from the midwest!
I found a link to his website and saw that he was playing close to NYC where I live. I drove the three hours to see a show in Albany, NY.at a place called “ The Egg” where he shared a headlining gig with Stephen Lynch. I was hooked. A week later I drove to see him in Connecticut and now I had the bug full time again. In stead of being miserable at home worrying about my right wrist I was laughing and having a better outlook at life in general. Mitch passed away March 29th 2005 exactly two weeks after I saw him for the third and final time at Carolines on Broadway. I had the honor of meeting him and taking this picture with him on St. Patty's day of 2005 according to his wife Lynn and his parents it could be the last picture of him alive. Now, when I go to see a comic I wait around after the show and try and meet and take a picture with the comic that preformed. Its kind of my way to honor my hobby of attending and supporting live comedy and also a tribute to Mitch as turning me into a comedy junkie again. So if youre a comic and I’ve taken a picture with you and your reading this…Im sure Ive thanked you after the picture but I REALLY appreciate the time you spent taking the pic with me.
It truly is an art to make someone laugh so if you can, support stand up comedy. For you bowlers out there, these guys for the most part are a lot like ProBowlers. They dont make as much money as they should and if they dont get a TV sitcom they have to bust their butt to make a good living. Continue on to the photos section of my website and click on the comics section to see SOME of the people I have been fortunate to meet.
OK - he has to be the best comedian I have seen perform live. Saw him three times and he was amazing each time. Went out of his way to actually sign a copy of this picture and stick it in the mail for me. I just think he is amazing. If you don't know which comic to see live...SEE HIM!
My Buddy the Amazing Racist! Ari has come out to watch me bowl a few times, This picture was on set of the TV show I made in Fountain Valley. PLEASE check Out Ari at the Comedy Store in LA or opening for Joe Rogan......
Chris Rock from Brooklyn Tommy D from Queens meeting up at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles
There was no bigger name when I was in College than Dice. I saw him at Rascals in Montclair. Recently I have seen him @ CArolines and hereat the Comedy Store in LA.
He is on a ton of Chappelle Shows and yes, he is the guy in "For Love of the Game" whose head got bopped by the baseball ... but Greer is one of my favorite comics on- and off-stage. Id pay to see him any night of the week.
Chris is now part of a 2 person musical comedy group.(( A smarter version of Stephen Lynch)) You might remember him from MTV's Singled out. Or bowlers might know him as Billy's son.
Steve is one of the best guys I have ever met going to comedy clubs. He works a ton in NYC and LA plus he hits the road. NEVER puts on a bad show. Go and see him if you can.
Eric is a west coast comic so I feel slighted that I don't get to see him more often. Hey all you in LA: if you want to laugh your ass off, check out his schedule and go and see him! If he dosen't blow up soon I'll be totally suprised!
You're a sick sick man, Stanhope. And funny as hell. And thank you for being the first to write something on your homepage about Mitch passing away.
I remember watching him on Remote Control with all of my TKE brothers in my dorm room. Who knew he'd put out the best comic showcase ever years later on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.
A Long Island comic who his it big Nationally and deservedly so. You can see him on the TV show " Rescue Me."
My favorite comics are " joke tellers" and here is an all time great. Howard Stern's head writer for years and he has his on show on Sirius.
He's known as Martha Stewart's warm up comic, but at home here on Long Island he's just known as a high energy comic who always put on a good show!
I have your elixim camera you lost in Aruba! Thanks! No, just kidding Bobby.I bought mine in Japan, so don't try and jack me for it!
I'll never go food shopping again without looking at the HOT POCKETS and running away from them!
Saw him while I was on tour at the Comedy Works inDenver. Funny as hell as he holds the mike stand like he is ready to rock a zeppelin tune or something!
Not your typical comic, but the jokes are great! Almost like Wright or Hedberg with a lot of music.
Great, now I can't get "Make it urgent" out of my head. And I thought whoo-hoo woo-whoo hooo was bad.......
Saw him at the improv in Orlando. He was the only thing that made that rain-soaked week worthwhile.
I'm not big into prop comics, but Dunham is an amazing ventriloquist and writes good stuff to boot. Id see him as often as he is in my area, he is that good.
Be careful bowlers, he AVERAGES a 300 game when he bowls (he says that in a bowling bit he does) and thats why he is the world champ!
One of the first comics I ever saw back in College at the old E. Orange Rascals. WE'll miss him on the east coast.......
If you can get by the voice and the mannerisms, what you would relaise is that Emo Phillips is one of th emost brilliant joke writers ever!
Here we are at Wiley's in Dayton , Ohio
The Human Sound Machine from Police Academy and Spaceballs. I met him @ the Tempe Improv.
Real Big, Real Funny. If they ever remade Spenser 4 Hire, he would be the PERFECT HAWK!
In all of the newest Adam Sandler Movies, or just look for his gay robot somewhere on Comedy Central.
In this photo album I'll show photos of the equipment I'm currently using along with the specs and layouts of each ball.I'll do my best to keep them in order of the balls that hook the most to the ones that hook the least. On top here is my "USBC BOWLING" team ball I use for spares in PBA competition.
First Cell I drilled, got me to the Show in LA and used it in the doubles in Vegas.
P4Xcg 3 1/2 mb 4
X out one but even though it is a mega pin out, this is my favorite ball at this time. Pin is 6 from axis cg 4 1/4 mb 4 1/2
A favorite symetrical Drilling. This ball is a sleeper. Havent liked a AMF ball this much since the Cobra!
Pin 4 3/4. cg 3 1" X Hole 5" over 2"down
This ball goes back and forth as far as where I place it on the hook scale. P 4X cg 3 3/8 X mb 4 25 X 3 1/2 over.
Very good ball, I use it with 2000 grit from all angles.
p 41/2X 3 1/4 mb 4 1/8 25X 4 over 1/2 down
My most versitile ball right now. Great for all releases but really good especially throwing it very straight or slow hooking it.
5 5/8 X5 mb 5
P 6 X cg 4 1/2. Drilled it to go up the lane, but I also used it to open them up on hooking lanes like when I had to get in on Cheetah
Another weird mb drilling, only good for playing straight doing up the boards from outside.
Its a pin 5 X cg 4 but the mb is clear on the left side of the ball
